Mazarin in Malaysia30th May 2015

With the year 2014, Mazarin saw its 10th year of success and celebrated the occasion with a night to remember. On that night, very special news was revealed by Peter and Jonas that made everyone present brim with excitement. On 2015, the Mazarin annual trip was revealed to be a trip to the exotic nation of Malaysia.

As expected, organizing and preparing this journey began well in advance. Schedules were made, dates were planned out. A team of 5 VPs was selected to the ClubM committee to organize the proceedings. These VPs were assigned to manage all the required information needed to travel abroad. Travel plans were discussed and information was shared that would help everyone including first time travelers. It was done to an extent that by the day that we were about to depart, everyone was fully prepared.

29th May was a working day at Mazarin. So, the Mazarins came to work on the day packed and filled with hope for the journey ahead. We departed Mazarin premises after gathering our families at 6 p.m. and headed for the Bandaranaike International Airport for departure. Everyone was guided through the check-in procedure methodically, and was led to the gate to await the plane that would take them to Malaysia. We took off from Sri Lanka at 11.55 p.m. and arrived at Kuala Lumpur International Airport on 30th May at 7.00 a.m. flying towards a beautiful Malaysian sunrise, giving the journey a memorable start.

We were greeted at the airport by our agent and tour guide for the coming days. Their expertise and guidance were very helpful for us throughout the trip. Our first taste of Malaysia came from Putrajaya, the administrative capital of Malaysia. It was a highly organized and picturesque landscaped town with high profile buildings. After quite a lengthy bus ride through Putrajaya, we arrived at Swiss Garden Hotel where we used as our temporary residence for the rest of the stay.

After lunch and a bit of refreshing, we got ready for the Mazarin Summit. We were met by Peter and Jonas, who had arrived couple of days earlier. The Mazarin Summit was an event for all Mazarin employees chaired by Peter and Jonas. At the summit, we remembered our success over the last 10 years and looked ahead to where Mazarin will be going in the future, reflecting upon the vision of Mazarin. The summit ended with a fun little Q&A activity which was both enjoyable and introspective. After the summit, it was the Gala Dinner a.k.a Mazarin Stellar Night. Everyone dressed up in colorful and smart attire for a night of hearty food and companionship. The long, tiring but pleasant first day at Malaysia ended with us retiring back to our hotel rooms.

The second day was planned ahead with a tour around Kuala Lumpur with a visit to the Petronas tower and Melaka city. The Petronas towers are an amazing piece of engineering that stands tall and proud at the Kuala Lumpur city center. Everyone was eager to take a photo or two with the two majestic towers set as the backdrop. The sky bridge and the top of the towers revealed sights that stretched to infinity and gorgeous views of the surrounding city underneath. Saying goodbye to the towers, we headed south towards Melaka city, a world heritage site. It is a historical city that was influenced by Holland architecture that was evident in the Red square and several churches that were there. At Melaka, we got to go on a river cruise that showed the city from a different perspective. It was around 9 p.m. when we returned from Melaka and we took the opportunity to try Malaysian street food at the famous Jalan Alor (Food Street) where we partook on a truly different dining experience.

The third day was also a pre-planned tour around Kuala Lumpur itself. We visited many historical places of importance which were breathtaking and awe-inspiring at the same time. Those included Istana Negara (The National Palace), National Monument and Merdaka square. To experience a bit of wildlife we visited the KL bird park and we observed a huge variety of exotic birds from all over the world. The city tour was the final planned activity of the trip. Afterwards it was time for everyone to enjoy Malaysia on their own; doing the things each individual enjoyed the most.

Kuala Lumpur is a choice destination for shoppers, containing several shopping malls around the city of which the most popular are Mydin, KWC, Berjaya Shopping mall, Low Yat Plaza and Sungei Wang plaza. The prices were affordable and the choices were varied. Everything ranging from electronics, cosmetics, fashion, memorabilia, chocolates and other sweets were abundant for our shoppers. Some of us looked around for other sights to see at KL too. The Berjaya Times square had an indoor theme park which had a thrilling Roller-Coaster ride. KL city center was famous for Aquaria, an aquarium that housed marine wildlife from around the globe, which also had a lengthy underwater aquatic tunnel to see sharks and other underwater species in their natural habitat.

These are only some of the many experiences available for travelers going to Kuala Lumpur. This is why by noon of 2nd of June, we were all wishing for the trip to be at least a couple of days longer to experience Malaysia to the fullest. But it was time to head back home. Everyone was packed and ready to return. From this brief time in Malaysia we had collected numerous memories with our own stories to tell to our friends and families waiting back at home.

Thus, we saw the end of our trip to Malaysia. It was truly a different and enjoyable experience that will hold a special place forever in the Mazarin book of memories.
